Almost return the Pak-o-Small xs size that Lucy (a Guinea Pig) loves (May 2006)

First feedback upon receipt: "I am in receipt of the carrier, but it is totally unsuitable for a guinea pig. I was not expecting that it would have all the ferret "attachments" in it already, which are actually dangerous for a guinea pig as they could strangle on the hammock, and the tunnel is too small for a guinea pig to get into. Also, I was not expecting the floor tray to be hard cold plastic with velcro; VERY uncomfortable for bare little guinea pig feet and tender little guinea pig tummies (g.p. legs are VERY short and the tummies tend to hit the ground)...

PLEASE contact me ASAP regarding an exchange...I needed the carrier for Saturday June 16th as I start my vacation then. And please immediately stop selling this carrier as suitable for a guinea pig as it is totally unsafe for cavies.

Thank you, Diana B.

In between: We explained all the accessories are detachable. As all our carriers have the detachable floor trap with an 1" rim, we issued refund for the expected return. Two days later, customer called and told us that her guinea pig Lucy actually loved it when she decided to try it. She wanted to keep the carrier. To address her concern, we agreed to trade the accessories for a faux fur cushion for the floor.

End with: "I am still so amazed at how much she loves the Pak-o-Small.

I took her to church with me on Sunday for the pet blessing service, which is a half hour's walk one way, and she really seemed to enjoy the walk, especially looking out of the windows.

It started to rain while we were walking home, and I just put the flap back down over the big window in the side and put up my umbrella, and I had a perfectly warm and dry guinea pig when I got home.

Thank you so much again, I just can't believe that I almost returned it!"

Further Comment when asked if the stainless steel mesh is necessary and reminded not to leave the carrier in the sun: No, I would NEVER leave her out in the sun! The rule with a guinea pig is very simple: if anything is not comfortable or healthy for you, it is neither for the guinea pig as well. They are also very prone to upper respiratory infections, which are often fatal for them, so she will not be going anywhere in cold weather unless she is in the car.

The stainless steel mesh probably is the best thing for guinea pigs, since they can and do chew a LOT...she chewed on one of the flaps that cover the ends on her first trip out, so I kind of rolled them under the floor tray so she can't get at them and she hasn't done it again. So I would modify the design to have the covers for the windows at the end on the outside of the mesh to protect them from busy little rodent teeth, but not eliminate them since the ventilation is nice and she really seems to enjoy looking out while we are walking around.

What did you think of my other suggestion re: having the water bottle holder outside the carrier with a grommet that the tube could go in to be accessible for drinking, rather than the elastic straps on the inside? I think I could find a picture of what I mean and email it to you. Let me know.

Celltei: We are testing a bottle that doesn't leak and believe we can do that soon.
