| James and Donna here. We are looking for a tote for a large Macaw, I have searched the web from front to back but not found anything. Do you have something? Or can you make something. Needs to have screens on the sides for air flow and would be nice to be able to put it on my back. Thanks for your help.

Thank you very much for your information. I can't promise we must have the Macaw carrier done but will certainly try. We may be talking about six months to a prototype - hope you understand the production does take this long. We are doing a trade show this week and will return on March 3. Feel free to fax us any drawing. We will give credit to your input to the design if we end up making one. We will try to understand the features needed for Macaw but will focus on the integrity of the structure and the technical aspects that we have learned from making carrier for pets. I must confess I actually have to look up the site to find out what a Macaw is. We have customers who use the petite to small size Pak-o-Pet (with the bird tray) to carry their bird around. The Pak-o-Pet has mesh openings on both side and the front. The Tote-o-Pet and Pet-on-the-Go have mesh on the sides including the part of the body that should allow maximum air flow. As we have ASPCA approval, ASPCA suggests we advise customer not to use the bird tray when the bird is in transit so that they may not fall off the perch accidentally. I know we can further improve the designs for birds and I wish you are in NYC so that I can invite you in to show me exactly what is good for Macaws' needs. They have beautiful feathers and how the design needs to be so that we won't cause any problem to the tails. How tall the inside room needs to be with or without the bird tray (with a perch), etc. We have a customer from south Africa bought the small size for her bird. I assume she is happy with it as we have received no complain from her at all. The bird tray is in fact developed by a bird farm owner who tried out our Pak-o-Pet for her bird. Instead of providing you an answer, I am sorry that I actually have more questions as we just started to make people aware that this soft and light weight product can be a carrier for bird (since the internal support structure can maintain the interior room). I am interested to see if we can provide your Macaw something if you would kindly let me know. Why do you want it as a backpack (you may not see the bird and I don't think you can stray a bird safely, can you?)? The bottom tray is removable, waterproof and washable. Do bird gets motion sickness? Do we keep the interior color dark or light color (which I was told that can minimize motion sickness and I notice that most bird cage are white? Do they get hot? There long tail is a tricky one for the design. What do we need to be careful of? Does it need to be a screen with wire or the fabric tight mesh like that used in the Total bag is fine? |
| I have seen other people have their Macaws in a tote. The mesh would have to be wire. and don't worry to much about the color inside. The one that I have seen (home made) had a big zipper in the back of the pack and was carried like a backpack, It had a perch. The tail of Macaw and most other birds will fold or bend. but if you made it 3 or 4 foot high and 2 or 3 foot wide. with shoulder straps. and have a loop on the inside the roof for hanging a toy so the bird would chew on it instead the tote. I will try to draw up some plans and send them to you. Thanks let me know if I can be more of some help. If you read bird talk or go online with a bird chat room these totes is wanted everywhere. Not to carry so much in the car but outdoors to carry birds for one store to another. It helps to make the bird submisible and easier to control when it outside around other people. With this carrier people will be able to see the bird and come up to it but not to touch it. Thanks let me know if I can help. | We send James a Pet-on-the-Go for his comment on the suitability if the mesh material. |
| I got the bag. Sorry for the delay; had sickness in the family. The mesh looks great. I don't see why that would hurt. We can help sell the carrier but tell people that it is better to get the bird outside so young kids will not get bitten and the bird can become more social. And since every kids like to come up and touch the bird, this way you can keep the birds away from dirty hands and keep the bird more healthier. But the mesh is great and will work. If you can make a loop on the inside of the cage so we can hang a toy to keep the bird busy, he will not try so hard to play with the mesh... Do I make sense? | We proceed with making the prototype. |
