Parrot Festival 2026

Parrot Festival 2026

National Parrot Rescue and Preservation ("NPRP") rescues, rehabilitates, and re-homes displaced parrots. We are committed to the education of current and prospective parrot owners and parrot related organizations.   For over 20 years, NPRPF has also hosted Parrot Festival in Houston, TX - an event dedicated to helping educate parrot owners and provide information for everyone interested in sharing our passion and love for parrots. This annual conference supports parrots in our care and helps us support other avian organizations in the US and around the world./span>

When - January 23-25, 2026

Where - DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Houston Intercontinental Airport, Houston, Texas, USA

Parrot Festival was the very first parrot event we attended shortly after we moved our production to the US in 2010.   At the time, our knowledge about parrots was still very limited, mostly from book research and talking with parrot owners.  It was eye opening to meet the "crazy" bird people whose passion, love, knowledge and fascination about parrots is "loud and clear".  Parrots we met at the event were well trained, comfortably perched on the owners' shoulder but enthusiastically joined a dance as part of the big flock.  Of course, they got tired too at the end of the day. We did not have any birds at the time and were considering adopting one.  The generous prizes donated for the daily raffles and big auction should not be missed.  Let us surprise you with our donation this year.  Come join us and ask any questions you have about new or replacement products.

Parrot Festival 2026

Founder Note on Price increases effective January 2026

With substantial cost increases range from 87% on plastic panel material to over 600% on aluminum bar, we need to raise prices to keep up with our expenditures effective 2026.

Where are we?  Celltei is the only pet travel goods company in the world that designs and direct manufactures all our products in the USA.  We incorporated in 1999 and sold our first product in 2000.  This first dog backpack initially named Pak-o-Pet and the subsequent  bird backpack named Pak-o-Bird were both granted a US patent.  They are the most popular products amongst the many ingenious Celltei designs.  In 2009, we took a bold move to move our production from Hong Kong to NYC.  With increased competition from cheaper imports and knockoffs, we started taking on more higher priced custom jobs.  This allows us to expand our knowledge about parrots, monkeys and other wildlife. The covid years post huge challenges to the operation including finding reliable new suppliers.  With new government policy and administrative requirements, our cost base needs to be watched carefully in the near future.

Who are we?  Over the years, customers become friends.  We share life stories marked by the succession of various pets.  Many customers are loyal to particular breed or species.  Some travel around the world with their pets for fun or for agility competitions.  With parrots' greater longevity than dogs and cats, it is not uncommon for families to have their parrots for over 30 years, a relationship that lasts longer than an average marriage in the US!   We are no expert in monkey, nor do we recommend keeping monkeys as pets.  Yet, we are always intrigued to find out nearly everyone buying a Pak-o-Monkey waited for many years until they have the time and the means to care for one.  These are Celltei customers.  Our mission is to enable the animals be part of the family, going places and sharing an enjoyable life together.  We take proud and satisfaction in making a functional and beautiful product.   "Living with Pets in Style" is our motto.

How are we different?  Lately, quite a few customers have returned after 15 or 16 years for a new bag.  They like the improvements we made to the design.  Some can still reuse certain parts and get a price deduction.  Isn't durable with reusable parts Celltei product the ultimate eco-friendly product?   Our intial business focus was to be the "Design House for Pets and Their Family Too".  Yet, making a containment for a live animal that breathes and soils and with weight ranges a few grams' bird to 40 plus pounds dog, requires practical and technical knowledge.  How the product is used and the physical condition of the person using it do matter too.   Puppies' teeth, parrots' beaks and monkeys' skilled finger nails are all "lovely" challenges.  Celltei needs a factory and the ability to make these designs and continue to improve them.  Here we are, the only pet carrier brand still standing after 25 years.  So many times, an old customer called and told us how glad and also surprised to find us still in busines.  For the love and respect of our animals, we hope to be around for many more years.

We thank you for your understanding. If you enjoy your Celltei bag or like our story, please share a review and spread the words for us.

We met Debbie Goodrich, one of the founders and current president of FCF in 2012 when we joined AFA conference for the first time.   She greeted us with warmth and helped us setting up for the event.   Training to free-flying parrots was just started then.

Amongst all the great speakers at the event, the virtually presentation of "Brief Update on the Spix's Macaw Release Project" by Dr. Cromwell Purchase, PhD from Caatinga, Brazil is a must event for us.   The Spix's was extinct in the wild.   We learned of the bird when we made a gift human bag with a Spix's Macaw image for one of the speakers at the Phoenix Landing Foundation's Wellness Retreat Program in 2016.     The embroidery image was digitized based on a picture of the very last Spix's macaw in Brazil.     Can't wait!

American Federation of Aviculture 2025 Conference

Attended Event - American Federation of Aviculture 2025 Conference

The American Federation of Aviculture (AFA) is a nonprofit national organization established in 1974, whose purpose is to represent all aspects of aviculture and to educate the public about keeping and breeding birds in captivity.   The mission and purpose of AFA is be to promote the advancement of Aviculture through educational programs that support the advancement and improvement of breeding practices, husbandry practices, and living conditions for exotic birds, conservation, research and legislative awareness.  The goal of AFA is to insure long-term, self-sustaining populations of exotic birds both in captivity and in the wild.

When - September 3-6, 2025
Where - Raleigh, North Carolina, USA
From great presentations to bird shows and many fun events, see the Conference Agenda here.

This was the fifth time we joined the conference; the last time was in 2019.   When a detailed spreadsheet of all the big macaws information showed up in the email in 2003 asking us to make a carrier.   "What is a macaw?" we asked.  We came a long way, didn't we?

AFA core members often call themselves "crazy" bird people.  Yes they are :-)!  They are specialty bird store owners, some breeds birds but all are enthusiasts of parrots and partake in re-homed parrots and conservation.   At this conference, A Caique quietly perches on any willing shoulder through out all the presentations. The Cape Parrot, the Black Palm Cockatoo, the Moluccan Cockatoo, the Blue & Gold Macaw, the Galah (Rose Breasted Cockatoo) , the Blue Fronted Amazon Parrot attended all stayed near their family members free and were happy to sing or chat with any willing passerby.

Tom Marshall, the resident of AFA in late 80s, who we attended his talk about Caiques during this conference has recently published a book titled "What Parrots? Why Aviculture?".  The book provides a summary view of parrots, related developments and the value of aviculture from his perspective and experiences.   We find the book very informative and enjoy the reading very much.   We understand AFA will take a more active role in educating the public about responsible parrot ownership and also reach out to rehomed and rescue groups across the country to share their knowledge, bridge any mis-understanding and work together for love of parrots.  Please stay tuned.
